Verbal Trauma Control

Do you know what to say when seconds count?

Verbal Trauma Control is a special way of speaking to those in mental and/or physical trauma that will immediately increase comfort and calmness and set the course for recovery. Also known as Verbal First Aid, these techniques give you the tools to be prepared for any emergency situation, whether you are a citizen, 9-1-1 operator, an on-scene responder, or someone who works within a health care facility.

As a 9-1-1 professional, I know all too well the source of frustration that distressed callers present. Callers are often in a state of panic, shock and pain. The fear-response part of the brain has kicked in and hi-jacked the callers mind – leaving their mind wide open to suggestion.

These skills will empower 9-1-1 professionals, citizens (parents), daycare workers and emergency responders to understand how the mind works when it is in danger. Students will learn to harness the power of language and empathy in order to create calm and healing.

Verbal Trauma Control is delivered in several formats. Information sessions are offered in one or two hour sessions. Certification courses are delivered in half-day sessions.

Connie has been teaching Verbal Trauma Control since 2010 for the City of Calgary, Public Safety Communications (9-1-1) centre with excellent results and feedback. She has also presented on this topic at the 2012 & 2013 National Guild of Hypnotists Convention Marlborough, Massachusetts, and the 2012 APCO (Association of Professional Communications Officers) Conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
